Long Hiatus
It's been a long time since I blogged on here. I've read many books since then, but haven't gotten the chance or time to tell all my readers about them. One of the best books I've read in a long time is John Sanders' The God Who Risks. This book will rock your world if you get the chance to read it. Now, there is also a lot of controversy surrounding this book because it promotes what is called "open theism". This view of the foreknowledge and the sovereignty of God really peeves a lot of people off (e.g., this guy). Also, if you go on Amazon and look up the book I just mentioned, MOST of the reviews are negative towards the ideas and the author (ad hominem attacks). I would venture to say that a lot of people would count this view and its concomitant parts as "heresy." And, if you read up a bit on it, you'll see that word used a lot. Nonetheless, I liked the book and I hope that one day soon I'll get to meet the author. In the long run, I like to look at it like this: Two guys in a nursing home. One guy, an avowed open theist, the other, well, the opposite. Which one's kids will come by and see him? Does it matter?
"It's funny to me how little God defends Himself and how often people who claim to follow Him feel like they need to."
--- Isaac of Ninevah, 2008
(Yeah, you can quote me.)
